Premier League - Paper Round: United tell star 'he can leave'
Manchester United have told a top player at the club that he can leave; Liverpool have lined up an ‘amazing deal’ for a top striker; and Crystal Palace are targeting a shock new name as boss – the top stories from the morning’s papers.
‘United tell star he can leave’ - Danny Welbeck has been told that he can leave Manchester United,
that’s according to a report in The Times. The 23-year-old striker will
be allowed to depart Old Trafford as Louis van Gaal is looking to
rebuild the squad. Tottenham Hotspur are considering a move for the England forward and Sunderland may also make an approach for a player thought to be earning £50,000 per week.
Paper Round’s view: The
fact that Van Gaal appears to have decided that Welbeck, who has scored
20 league goals in 90 appearances for United, is surplus to
requirements despite having two years left on his contract is somewhat
of a surprise. Since emerging from the club’s academy, Welbeck has been
one of United’s brightest young talents, but the Dutchman obviously
doesn’t see him fitting into his system. A move to Spurs could end up
being the best thing for the England player.
