ADAMAWA GUBER POLL: JONATHAN DUMPS RIBADU

President Jonathan has reportedly withdrawn his backing of Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, former chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission ahead of the Oct. 11 governorship election in Adamawa State.
According to an informed source, the Presidency is worried over the disaffection caused by the entrance of Ribadu into the race, especially amid intelligence that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar was positioning to use the acrimony to his advantage.
Checks further revealed that, “The race in the coming days is likely to be very interesting but we have all resolved to be very careful because in politics, you cannot take chances, especially ones that are likely to jeopardize the chances of your party. “When the issue of Ribadu first came up, some indices which we are witnessing now had not come up then. “For instance, no one knew that the acting governor was going to be interested. Also, the impression was created that all other aspirants were going to step down for him (Ribadu) on the intervention of a mutual friend of most them who brought the Ribadu option. “But right now, the president has insisted that he cannot support any of the aspirants against others since there appears not be a consensus among them and more so, that the hurdles we thought could be cleared for Ribadu are not just there but are still waxing stronger.

Jennifer Lopez Promotes Iggy Azalea 'Booty' Remix With 'Double Bubble' Cover

When news surfaced that Jennifer Lopez and Iggy Azalea would unite for a remix to Lopez's "Booty," one could have safely assumed the promotional images would focus on one thing in particular.
On Tuesday, Lopez shared the cover shot of the "Booty" remix with Azalea on Instagram. Lopez and Azalea pose in swimsuits and heels, with wet hair and sultry stares. Lopez also captioned the pic with a slew of cheeky hashtags: "#jlobooty #aintseenabootylikethissincejennyfromtheblock #doublebubbletrouble #jloiggybooty."
Azalea replaces Pitbull, who appears on the original version, and raps: "They're begging me to drop down on 'em / But right now Iggy on the top / The last time the world seen a booty this good / It was on Jenny From the Block."
Lopez's "A.K.A." dropped last month. Despite a flood of promotion, it was a lackluster release for the superstar. The album debuted at the No. 8 spot on the Billboard 200, with only 33,000 albums sold.

Why are so many Britons fighting for ISIS?

LONDON -- It is not just American citizens fighting along the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, the extremist group known as ISIS.
British citizens are doing the same. One is suspected in the murder of an American journalist.
CBS News looked at how Britain became a center for terrorist recruitment.
At home in Britain, he was Nasser Muthanna, a gifted 20-year-old who once dreamed of becoming a doctor. But in Syria, he is now Abu Muthanna al-Yemeni - one of hundreds of young men who have left the U.K. to join the brutal terrorist group ISIS.
The execution of American journalist James Foley, apparently at the hands of a British citizen, has left Britain struggling to understand how one of its own could be responsible for such an atrocity.
Shiraz Maher is an analyst at the International Center for the Study of Radicalization.
"It was a shocking thing to see but it wasn't surprising. If you look at British fighters in Syria over the last year, we've seen them operate as suicide bombers. We've seen them execute prisoners of war. They are participating in most of the brutal acts out there," Maher said.
He said these men no longer see themselves as being British.
"They've disengaged from British society, they've disengaged from British values, they've bought into something else -- a different identity," Maher said.

Hundreds of young British men have left home and gone to the Middle East to fight for ISIS. CBS News
They see themselves as defenders of Islam in a war against nonbelievers. Their barbaric tactics have been glamorized on social media, a powerful recruitment tool that British authorities are now trying to crack down on.
But the challenge is a formidable one. With every victory on the battlefield, ISIS' appeal grows. Many are concerned that it is only a matter of time before their jihad spreads beyond the Middle East.
On a video posted on YouTube, ISIS foreign fighters are seen burning their passport.
"This is a message for to Canada and all the American power-elite, we are coming and we will destroy you," one jihadi says on the video.
"We are coming for you, Barack Obama!" he adds.
One thing that is striking about these jihadis is that some of them are religious novices. Two fighters who came from Britain reportedly purchased copies of "Islam for Dummies" on Amazon. So they don't necessarily have a sophisticated understanding of Islamic theology. They are drawn to the idea of being warriors.

Vevo shades Kim Kardashian and her daughter, North West

While the world was watching the VMAs on Sunday night, Vevo tweeted something that was missed by many until now. A tweet that got a few angry and many people nodding in agreement. Not nice :-)

The video hosting service owned and operated in a joint venture by Universal Music Group, Google and Sony Music Entertainment shaded the heck out of Kim Kardashian and her daughter, North West. Continue to see what Vevo tweeted...

Below is what Vevo live Tweeted to their millions of followers immediately after Beyonce's performance at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards.

: We were rooting for Shyheim - who was the YOUNGEST MEMBER of the Wu Tang Clan. He got out of prison a couple of years back, and was looking to turn his life around.
But he recently PLEAD GUILTY an innocent man and then RAN FROM THE SCENE . . . so he deserves to be in JAIL.
Here is how it is being reported:
Avila Olea, 29, a bakery worker, suffered fatal injuries when a car driven by rapper Shyheim Franklin blew through a stop sign and slammed into his auto on a New Brighton street, said prosecutors.
Franklin, 36, was speeding, prosecutors said.
Moments before Franklin was sentenced Thursday to up to 14 years in prison on a second-degree manslaughter plea, Avila Olea's grieving widow, Asuncion Valencia Mendez, asked a justice to come down hard on the Wu-Tang clan cohort.
"I just want him to be conscious of what he's done, and whenever he gets out of jail not to do again what he did to my husband," she said, fighting back tears.
Prosecutors allege Franklin barreled into Avila Olea's 1996 Toyota Celica at 5:07 a.m. on Lafayette Avenue.
Franklin had been traveling on Cassidy Place and Avila Olea, 29, was Richmond Terrace-bound on Lafayette, headed to his job at the Rosamaria Bakery on Vreeland Avenue in Port Richmond.
Franklin, who was driving a friend's 1996 Volvo S80, smashed into a parked Dodge Ram after hitting the victim's auto, then bolted, leaving his blood on the driver's side airbag, said law enforcement sources.

Body language expert analyze Beyonce & Jay Z at the VMAs, says they have marriage problems

Beyonce and Jay Z can't go a day these days without one report or the other about the state of their marriage. After their appearance at the VMAs on Sunday night, The NY Post hired a body language expert to analyze Beyonce and Jay Z's body language during the award ceremony.

Below is what body language expert, Susan Constantine, who works with a Florida court had to say;
Beyoncé’s face:
“She’s giving a false smile,” Constantine says. If she were really happy, her eyebrows would be lifted and her eyes would be more open.
Jay Z’s face
“This is what we call a flat face,” Constantine says. “There’s no expression whatsoever.” Happiness would be indicated by upturned corners of the mouth. But he’s less strained than Beyoncé.
Their Eyes:
“Neither one of them is looking at each other,” says body language expert Susan Constantine. “Their interest is more in their daughter.”
Beyoncé’s hand over midsection
She’s blocking her stomach area — the home of emotions in the body — indicating a feeling of vulnerability. Were she feeling comfortable, she’d expose her midsection.
Beyoncé’s hip
Her hips are angled away from her husband, indicating disassociation. “In other [older] photos, you see Beyoncé leaning into her husband,” Constantine says.
Blue Ivy
Her hands are clasped in a prayer-like way. Happiness would be indicated by raised arms and an extended body. Instead, she’s making herself small. “Maybe she’s praying her parents get back together,” Constantine says.
Lol, Blue Ivy is not even spared...

Premier League - Paper Round: United tell star 'he can leave'

Manchester United have told a top player at the club that he can leave; Liverpool have lined up an ‘amazing deal’ for a top striker; and Crystal Palace are targeting a shock new name as boss – the top stories from the morning’s papers.

Premier League - Paper Round: United tell star 'he can leave'

‘United tell star he can leave’ - Danny Welbeck has been told that he can leave Manchester United, that’s according to a report in The Times. The 23-year-old striker will be allowed to depart Old Trafford as Louis van Gaal is looking to rebuild the squad. Tottenham Hotspur are considering a move for the England forward and Sunderland may also make an approach for a player thought to be earning £50,000 per week.
Paper Round’s view: The fact that Van Gaal appears to have decided that Welbeck, who has scored 20 league goals in 90 appearances for United, is surplus to requirements despite having two years left on his contract is somewhat of a surprise. Since emerging from the club’s academy, Welbeck has been one of United’s brightest young talents, but the Dutchman obviously doesn’t see him fitting into his system. A move to Spurs could end up being the best thing for the England player.

DEAD SNAKE KILLS CHEF

A chef cooking a soup dish from cobra flesh died in China after he was bitten by the snake's head – 20 minutes after it was cut off.
Peng Fan was preparing the rare Asian delicacy from the Indochinese spitting cobra when the snake's severed head bit him with venom as he was throwing it into the bin, The Mirror reported.
Peng died before he could be treated in hospital with life-saving anti-venom, police said.
"It is a highly unusual case, but it appears to be just an accident," a police spokesman said. "He prepared the snake himself and was just unlucky.
"There was nothing that could be done to save the man. Only the anti-venom could have helped, but this was not given in time. It was just a tragic accident."
Diners who were eating in the restaurant at the time of the incident described screams coming from the kitchen.
Lin Sun, 44, who was dining with his wife Su said: "We were in the restaurant having a meal for my wife's birthday when suddenly there was a lot of commotion.
"We did not know what was happening but could hear screams coming from the kitchen. There were calls for a doctor in the restaurant but unfortunately by the time medical assistance arrived, the man had already died. After we heard that we did not continue with our meal."
According to snake expert Yang Hong-Chang, all reptiles can function for up to an hour after losing their body parts.
"It is perfectly possible that the head remained alive and bit Peng's hand," he said. "By the time a snake has lost its head, it's effectively dead, as basic body functions have ceased, but there is still some reflexive action.
"It means snakes have the capability of biting and injecting venom even after the head has been severed."

Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon's marriage on the rocks?

Sources claim singer Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon are this close to ending their six year marriage

From Page Six
Mariah Carey and comedian Nick Cannon are headed for a split and “living separately” after she hired security to keep him away from other women, sources exclusively told Page Six.
Our sources tell us Carey and Cannon, the host of “America’s Got Talent,” are separating after six years of marriage. “He hasn’t been staying at their home,” one music insider tells Page Six. “He’s been living out of hotels. They’re fighting a lot.”
Another source told us Carey has suspected Cannon of cheating. And when the comic hosted pool parties in Las Vegas earlier this year, the diva dispatched a security guard to keep watch over her husband.
“The security guard wasn’t there to keep the girls away from him,” said our source. “It was to keep him away from the girls.”
Carey also didn’t want Cannon drinking while at the Vegas gigs because she felt he “gets in trouble when he drinks,” the source added.

Fake soldier granted interview to BBC - DHQ says

On Tuesday August 19th, a Nigerian soldier spoke with the BBC explaining why himself and some other soldiers refused the order from their superiors to go fight Boko Haram insurgents. He alleged that they were not provided good weapons and ammunition and so gave Boko Haram the upper hand during any battle because the militants are more well equipped (read that here).

Now the Defence Headquarters says the man who spoke with BBC is an impostor. Their statement below
That degree of cowardice is not in the character of a real soldier of the Nigerian Army.  The series of lies contained in the alleged responses of the faceless person referred to as a soldier confirms the whole arrangement as another step of the mischief makers working for terrorists.  No soldier has been sent on any mission without being armed. Each soldiers answers for his action in terms of discipline.
Anyone who knows the military reward for mutiny will not join another person to try it.  The overwhelming majority of the Nigerian soldiers remains as brave and disciplined as ever.  They will certainly not join any renegade, coward, deserter or those trying to incite mutiny in the military to betray the nation at time like this, in a way that impostor told his interviewers.  His claims are false.
Certainly soldiers are not being sent to die.  We may not have everything now, but we are improving on weapons and equipment rapidly

ISIS beheads U.S Journalist as retaliation for U.S airstrikes

Islamic State insurgents released a video yesterday Tuesday August 19th purportedly showing the beheading of U.S. journalist James Foley (pictured above), who had gone missing in Syria nearly two years ago, and images of another U.S. journalist whose life they said depended on U.S. action in Iraq.

The video, titled "A Message To America," was posted on social media sites. It was not immediately possible to verify its authenticity.
Foley, who has reported in the Middle East for five years, was kidnapped on Nov. 22, 2012, by unidentified gunmen. Steven Sotloff, who appeared at the end of the video, went missing in northern Syria while he was reporting in July 2013. Continue...
A Twitter account set up by his family to help find him said early on Wednesday: "We know that many of you are looking for confirmation or answers. Please be patient until we all have more information, and keep the Foleys in your thoughts and prayers."
The White House said that U.S. intelligence agents were working to verify the authenticity of a video.
The Islamic State had not previously executed American citizens publicly. The video was posted after the United States resumed air strikes in Iraq for the first time since the end of the U.S. occupation in 2011.
The Sunni militant group has declared a caliphate in parts of Iraq and Syria in areas it controls.
The video opened with a clip of U.S. President Barack Obama saying he had authorized strikes in Iraq.
"Obama authorizes military operations against the Islamic State effectively placing America upon a slippery slope towards a new war front against Muslims," words appear in English and Arabic on the screen.
It showed black and white aerial footage of air strikes with text saying "American aggression against the Islamic State"
A person identified as James Foley and wearing an orange outfit is seen kneeling in the desert as a man in black dress with a black mask stands beside him, holding a knife.
"I call on my friends family and loved ones to rise up against my real killers, the U.S. government, for what will happen to me is only a result of their complacency and criminality," the kneeling man says.
The man in the mask speaks in a British accent and says: "This is James Wright Foley, an American citizen, of your country. As a government, you have been at the forefront of the aggression towards the Islamic State."
"Today your military air force is attacking us daily in Iraq. Your strikes have caused casualties amongst Muslims. You are no longer fighting an insurgency. We are an Islamic army, and a state that has been accepted by a large number of Muslims worldwide."
Following his statement he beheads the kneeling man.
At the end of the video, words on the side of the screen say "Steven Joel Sotloff" as another prisoner in an orange jumpsuit is shown on screen.
"The life of this American citizen, Obama, depends on your next decision," the masked man says.
Foley, a freelance reporter, had been covering Syria’s civil war for GlobalPost. In 2011, he was held for 45 days by forces loyal to former Libyan leader Muammar Gadaafi.
Sotloff is also a freelancer journalist with published stories in Time Magazine and Foreign Policy. He has worked in Syria, Libya and Yemen.

White House spokeswoman Caitlin Hayden said: "We have seen a video that purports to be the murder of U.S. citizen James Foley by ISIL. The intelligence community is working as quickly as possible to determine its authenticity.
"If genuine, we are appalled by the brutal murder of an innocent American journalist and we express our deepest condolences to his family and friends."
Islamic State also released another video on Tuesday that gave the strongest indication yet it might attempt to strike American targets.
The video with the theme "breaking of the American cross" boasts Islamic State will emerge victorious over "crusader" America.
It follows a video posted on Monday, warning of attacks on American targets if Washington struck against its fighters in Iraq and Syria.

"I want to capitalize on it. I’ll get a fan base from everywhere. I just hope I’ll be able to connect with everything that’s going on.'
When outraged fans called French out for 'using' Khloe, she took to twitter to say 'she don't currr."

In a broadcast yesterday August 17th, Lagos state governor, Raji Fashola debunked reports of Ebola patients in Lagos state-provided Isolation wards being maltreated. While appreciating the concerns of relatives and friends of the victim, Governor Fashola said they are receiving the best care health..
"I appreciate the concerns and anxiety that friends and relatives of sick victims must be going through. I assure you that our thoughts and prayers are with you. I understand that you expect special care for your loved ones, and this is to be expected. I assure you that they are receiving the best care that the experts have recommended to us, given the circumstances; because they say that this is the best way to proceed especially because experienced personnel in Ebola containment and management have always been a challenge" Fashola said. Read the full text of his broadcast after the cut...

Dear Lagosians,
As you must now be aware, we are facing perhaps our biggest challenge to public health and the safety of human lives at this moment with the discovery of the Ebola virus in our state.

This poses a threat to the primary purpose of our Government whi...ch is to save lives.

This address has become necessary to respond to a series of text messages, e-mails and telephone calls that I have received in order to reiterate some of what you may already know, to share information about what you may not know, and to keep everybody safe.

This has become the moreso in the light of allegations that are making the rounds, either that victims are being neglected, orthat a useful drug or vaccine is being rejected or that there is a shortage of funds.

I wish to state very categorically that none of these is true.

What is true is that we should perhaps never have been in this situation, but we are now in it.

What is true is that the Ebola virus did not break outfrom within Nigeria, it was imported into Nigeria.

What is true is that we have followed all the contacts that we know who have had primary and secondary contacts with the patient who imported the virus into our state, or with people who had contact with him.

Because we had to react to an unexpected situation, we had to react in a proper and methodical way, according to acceptable global health standards.

I can now tell you that in the last one week, with the help and advice of our technical partners, such as the World Health Organisation, the Centre for Disease Control and the Medecins Sans Frontiers, who have tracked this virus and studied it for decades, our response is a lot better than when the news first broke; and our capacity is increasing daily.

Although we have suffered very painful losses of lives, I think it is fair to say that we are not yet at an epidemic stage and we are determined to do everything not to get to that stage; because of the grave consequences to the safety of human lives.

We have provided information to the public on all state-owned media, while the private media have commendably joined in this effort. There is also information available on the social media platform.

Since Monday last week, precisely on the 11th of August, I commenced meetings on an almost daily basis with stakeholders in our society, religious leaders, traditional rulers, market men and women, community development associations, to brief them of the risk, to re-assure them that we are daily gaining control, to advise them and all of you to be cautious but not to panic.

My view of the fact that we are gaining control, is informed by verifiable facts that I receive daily from our health workers that all the cases of those who have either unfortunately died, or those who are sick, and those who are contacts under surveillance are directly traceable to the imported case.

There is also now the news that a confirmed victim has fully recovered, which reinforces the advice from our experts that it is not an automatic death sentence.

This is encouraging news from which our containment strategy can profit greatly; because it means that we do not have any case of unknown origin, which will raise the risk of an epidemic.

Dear Lagosians, the challenge of managing the Ebola virus is big but our resolve to contain and defeat it is bigger.

That resolve is demonstrated by the courage shown by the first set of health workers at state and federal levels who stood up to be counted, and the leadership of the state and federal Ministries of Health with the support of our international partners.

In spite of fear, they stood up to be counted at a time of grave danger.

We should salute their courage, professionalism, patriotism and humanitarian disposition.

They are the heroes and heroines that we have looked for for a long time. I cannot thank them enough.

While we are doing everything to assure their safety and to give them confidence to proceed; I want to passionately appeal that we must not do anything to distract them or demotivate them.

What they need now is our encouragement and support to gain even stronger control of the situation.

What they do not need are rumours and the distractions that they can bring with them.

I appreciate the concerns and anxiety that friends and relatives of sick victims must be going through. I assure you that our thoughts and prayers are with you.

I understand that you expect special care for your loved ones, and this is to be expected.

I assure you that they are receiving the best care that the experts have recommended to us, given the circumstances; because they say that this is the best way to proceed especially because experienced personnel in Ebola containment and management have always been a challenge.

What will be helpful to the situation now is additional medical personnel, who are willing to volunteer to join hands with those on the frontline.

But the experts also caution that those who sign up cannot immediately start to participate in the isolation ward, where sick people are being treated, no matter how qualified and experienced they are.

They must undergo a few days of training by our international body of advisers and understand the protocol for operation in the isolation ward for their own safety, and the sustenance of the containment plan to stop the virus from spreading.

To those who are seeking to do brisk business from this situation, I offer a word of caution and re-assessment. This is not our way.

I must also say to those who are seeking to raise funds that we appreciate your concerns but we are not yet at a fund raising stage and I cannot foresee that eventuality.

For now, the state has enough resources to fund everything that is needed. This is what your taxes can do in emergencies. Our House of Assembly has thankfully approved a request for any needed expenditure.

The President, Dr.GoodluckEbele Jonathan and the Honourable Minister for Health have shown the appropriate level of concern about the national and global risks that this poses and I am sure they will provide funds should we be unable to do so, if we ask for it.

The combined team of State and Federal personnel, our international partners, are daily sharing information with the public and the Federal Government about the status of the patients and contacts in a transparent way, and we should all please listen to them. They are the ones who have the facts.

What all of us must do is to follow all their advice, especially about reporting any suspected cases and about increasing our personal hygiene by constant washing of our hands with soap and water.

We should stop unhygienic practices of urinating in public and defaecating in public because those are body fluids and waste through which the virus is known to thrive.

This new week, starting from today and the next one, will bethe sharpest part of the curve that we expect to negotiate.

Last week we cleared a total of61 (SIXTY ONE) contactsafter the 21 days surveillance which is the known lifespan of the virus.

These people were not sick. They were persons who needed to be monitored because of real or suspected contacts to be certain that they did not eventually fall sick.

We cautiously wait to see how many more people will be cleared and hope that there will be no new cases.

Nevertheless, our strategy is to prepare for the worst by making plans to expand the facility to take any new cases, while we hope for the best.

There is a lot to do, and we need your collaboration to remain focused on containment and treatment.

Finally, I will like to say that this is the first time that the virus has infected people in an urban centre. It is a steep learning curve for everybody but it presents a huge opportunity for us as a people to show the world how to overcome it.

With your support and understanding, we will do no less, because we intend to overcome and defeat this threat.
